Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Your trust matters to us. This policy explains what personal information Solsher collects, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). We collect only what we need to run Solsher safely, we never sell your information, and you can ask us about it at any time.
1. Who we are
Solsher (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/767450/07), of Lancaster Road, Kenilworth, Cape Town, runs the Solsher app and website. We are the "responsible party" for your personal information under POPIA. In this policy, "Solsher", "we" and "us" mean Solsher (Pty) Ltd.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, phone number and/or email address, and your area.
- Profile details: for service providers, drivers, landlords, companies and workers, your business name, services, prices, description, work photos and areas you work in.
- Documents: IDs or passports, certificates, licences, vehicle details and photos, proof of ownership and references, which we use to check you before you go live.
- Job applications: your CV and anything else you send with an application.
- Bank details: for providers, sellers, drivers and landlords who receive payouts.
- Bookings, ads, listings, trips and reviews, and the messages you send in the app.
- Problems you report and anything you tell our support team.
Information collected when you use Solsher
- Payment records: what you paid or were paid, and when. Card payments are handled by Payfast; we never see or store your full card details.
- Location: when you use features that need it, such as finding providers near you, live tracking during a carpool trip or a "provider on the way" booking, Share my trip and the SOS button. We only use your location while you are using these features, and you can turn location access off in your phone's settings.
- Device and usage information: your device type, app version, notification token and basic logs of how the app is used, which help us fix errors, send notifications and prevent fraud.
Information from others
Other users may give us information about you, for example a review, a report of a problem, or a reference you asked someone to give.
3. Why we use it
We use your information only for the reasons below, and only as POPIA allows: to carry out our agreement with you, to meet our legal obligations, where it is in our or another user's legitimate interest (such as safety and fraud prevention), or with your consent.
- To create and run your account, and sign you in with one-time codes.
- To show your profile, ads and listings, and connect you with other users.
- To check that service providers, drivers, landlords and workers are who they say they are, including automatic checks of work photos for contact details and unsuitable content.
- To process payments, hold them until a job is done, pay out, and handle refunds.
- To send you notifications, codes and messages about your bookings, applications and account.
- To keep users safe: preventing fraud, scams and misuse, looking into problems and reports, and responding to emergencies.
- To keep records the law requires, such as tax and payment records.
- To improve Solsher, using information that doesn't identify you where possible.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for decisions about you made only by a computer without a person being able to review them. Photos turned down by the automatic check can be reviewed by our team.
4. What other users can see
- Service providers: your business name, services, prices, areas, description, approved work photos and reviews are shown to customers, and live profiles may be shown on our website.
- Phone numbers and contact details stay private until a booking is confirmed and paid, and then are shared only with the other person in that booking.
- Job seekers: your application and CV are shared only with the company you applied to.
- Homes: the exact address of a home is shown only after a viewing is accepted.
- Carpool: drivers and passengers on the same trip see each other's names, photos and pick-up details. Your live location is shared during a trip only with the people on that trip and anyone you choose to share it with.
- Your ID, documents and bank details are never shown to other users.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only when we need to, and only with:
- Other users, as described in section 4.
- Service providers who help us run Solsher, under agreements that require them to keep your information safe and use it only for us. These are: Supabase (our database, file storage and sign-in), Payfast (payments), Twilio (SMS sign-in codes), Resend (email sign-in codes), Google Cloud (automatic photo checks and maps), Expo (app notifications) and Netlify (our website).
- Authorities, such as the police, courts or regulators, when the law requires it, or when it's needed to protect someone's life or safety or to prevent or report a crime.
- Our professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers, who must keep it confidential.
- A new owner, if Solsher's business is ever sold or restructured, who must continue to protect it in line with this policy.
6. Information stored outside South Africa
Some of the services we use store or process information outside South Africa. Our main database and file storage are in the European Union (Ireland), and some services, such as SMS codes, photo checks, maps and notifications, are run from other countries, including the United States. We only use providers that are bound by data protection laws or agreements that give your information protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
7. How long we keep it
- We keep your account information for as long as your account is open.
- If you delete your account, we delete or remove your name and contact details from your profile, photos, documents and messages, except where we need to keep a record.
- Records of payments, payouts and refunds are kept for at least five years, as tax law requires, without your name where possible.
- Documents used to check you are kept while your profile is live and for a reasonable time after, in case of a dispute or a legal claim, then deleted.
- Job applications and CVs are kept while the job ad is open and for up to six months after it closes, then deleted.
- Live location from a trip is not kept as a history after the trip ends, apart from the trip's pick-up and drop-off points and any report made during the trip.
- Information about a reported problem or safety report is kept for as long as needed to deal with it and any claim that may follow.
8. How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your information safe, including encrypted connections, access controls so each user can reach only their own information, sign-in with one-time codes instead of passwords, private storage for documents, and limiting who in our team can see personal information. No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date, or to delete it where we no longer have a reason to keep it;
- object to us using your information in certain ways, including for direct marketing;
- withdraw consent you gave us, where we relied on consent;
- complain to the Information Regulator.
You can update most of your details in the app, and delete your account in the app at any time. For anything else, email info@solsher.co.za with "Privacy" in the subject line. We may need to confirm who you are before we act on a request. We will respond within a reasonable time and, for most requests, at no cost.
If you're not happy with how we handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You can also contact the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
10. Children
Solsher is for people aged 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children. Some services, such as tutoring, school shuttles or au pairs, are for the benefit of children, but they are booked by a parent or guardian, and only the information needed for the booking is shared. If you think a child has created an account, please tell us and we will remove it.
11. Messages and marketing
We send messages you need, such as sign-in codes, booking updates, application updates and safety notices. We will only send you marketing messages if you agree, and every marketing message will tell you how to stop them.
12. Our website and cookies
Our website, solsher.co.za, does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our website host keeps basic technical logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Solsher grows, for example when we add new features. We will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page, and tell you in the app before important changes take effect.
